We concern ourselves with the child’s life right from the start and warmly welcome families, whose love and care are the babies first introductions to the world, to understand each child’s needs.  Welcome implies listening, openness and a sense of wellbeing that comes from being welcomed with pleasure.

The Centre is a very complex and fluid organism.  It is made up of individuals; our goal is to create a harmonious environment where children, their parents and staff are happy.

We value parents as the child‘s first educator and we encourage you to play a full and active role in your child‘s education whilst at Cowgate Under 5’s Centre.  Through our shared responsibility, we can make decisions together that ensure your child is given the best possible start in life. In the 1700's, Froebel believed the relationship between the child and the mother was incredibly significant, which was revolutionary at the time. We strongly support that belief, but have expanded on it to include fathers too!

You will be offered a home visit prior to starting at Cowgate, where you will have the opportunity to meet with your identified key worker and a member of the management team.  We hope that this will forge a strong partnership between home and school from the onset. We value your unique knowledge of your children and hope to build on the experiences at home as they begin their learning with us.

We encourage you to stay with your child as they visit the centre, and have a lovely family room for your use to enable you to stay close by for the initial separations. We welcome your contributions to your child‘s ‘Personal Learning Plan’, sharing significant events and observations from their home life.

We welcome parents to visit the centre at any time and staff are available at the beginning and end of sessions to talk about any concerns or interests. Parent Consultations are offered three times throughout the year to discuss your child's learning and any other issues on a more formal basis.

Our families are invited to join in a variety of events celebrated at Cowgate under 5’s Centre throughout the year.
